Working in fifteen minutes.

Install the command-line tool, import a FHIR file, validate it, then read the same records from Python or TypeScript. Everything runs on your machine: no account, no API key.

Node 18+Python 3.10+ (optional)macOS · Linux · WindowsTested 20 Oct 2026 · CLI 0.28.0 · SDKs 3.0.0

Step 1

About a minute

Install the CLI

One global package, open source under Apache 2.0.

npm install -g @the-cascade-protocol/cli
cascade --version   # 0.28.0

Step 2

About three minutes

Create a pod and import a FHIR file

A pod is a folder of Turtle files. Use your own FHIR R4 bundle, or our synthetic sample: one made-up patient with a medication, a condition, an allergy, two observations, an immunization and insurance.

Download the sample (FHIR R4, 5 KB)

cascade pod init ./my-pod
cascade pod import ./my-pod patient-bundle.json

Step 3

About a minute

Validate it

Every file is checked against the published SHACL shapes. A failure names the record and the field.

cascade validate ./my-pod
Files: 14 total, 14 passed, 0 failed
Issues: 1 warnings

Step 4

About a minute

Ask it a question

Query by record type from the command line.

cascade pod query ./my-pod --medications
=== Medications (1 records) ===

Step 5

About five minutes

Read the same records from code

The SDKs read the files the CLI wrote. Nothing to convert.

Python

# pip install cascade-protocol
from cascade_protocol import Pod

for m in Pod.open("./my-pod").query("medications"):
    print(m.medication_name)   # Metformin HCl 500mg

TypeScript

// npm install @the-cascade-protocol/sdk
import { deserialize } from '@the-cascade-protocol/sdk';
import { readFileSync } from 'node:fs';

const ttl = readFileSync('./my-pod/clinical/medications.ttl', 'utf8');
const meds = deserialize(ttl, 'MedicationRecord');
console.log(meds.map(m => m.medicationName));   // [ 'Metformin HCl 500mg' ]
